Debbie’s Staffing is recruiting for an Engineering Intern for Spring/Summer 2024, for our client located in Cary, NC.  
 
This engineering internship will be part-time (8 hours/week) from February 2024 – May 2024 and full-time (40 hours/week) from June 2024 – August 2024.  The intern will assist in compiling Lead Service Line (LSL) data and preparing LSL Inventory reports for public water systems October 2024 state submittal. Much of this work can be done remotely; however, in-person activities at our Cary office and around the state may be necessary during the summer portion of the internship based on interest of the engineering intern. 
 
Pay Rate: $20/hour.
 
Schedule: Hours will be flexible around student’s class schedule however work will be performed during regular business hours.
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of studies and reports for Lead Service Line (LSL) Inventory work and other assigned projects. Activities include developing LSL inventories for many of our client’s 700+ North Carolina community water systems.  
  • Performs desktop reviews of county GIS records, tax cards, and aerial photography to ascertain year-built date and evaluate the presence of LSLs.
  • Coordinates communication with real estate agents to determine year-built dates for unknown service lines.
  • Assists in the development of statistical models for large water systems’ LSL inventories.
  • Identifies service lines requiring physical investigation during desktop review.
  • Ensures the work of consulting engineers meets the specific project requirements.
  • Coordinates with GIS & IT to ensure year-built findings are appropriately recorded in the database. 
  • Assists in the development of cost estimates for capital budget planning and projects.  This responsibility includes alternatives evaluations, cost estimating, scheduling, community impact assessments, and risk evaluations for various water and wastewater projects throughout the North Carolina service area. 
  • Performs other assignments as required.
 
Additional opportunities during Summer 2024 may include:
  • Water and wastewater treatment facility site visits to observe daily operations and maintenance activities, implementation of capital projects, or other learning opportunities.
  • Hands-on experience performing technical reviews of plans and specifications for water and wastewater conveyance and treatment.
  • Observes physical investigation activities to verify proper service line material identification.
  • Exposure to software and database applications such as SAP (financial software), Procore (project management), Qlik (data analytics), and GIS.
